Playlist for 6/25/10: The Big Cover Up, Pt. 2

It was my second annual all covers show, and good garden peas, I had fun. Again started with a Summerfest theme, which for some reason was slightly tougher to put together this year. Kevin Meyer, head honcho of Dusty Medical Records, stopped by to talk about the label's fifth anniversary. Erin Wolf, WMSE's music director, was kind enough to put together a preview for the show that offers an interesting history of cover songs. Playlist for 6-18-10: That's My Bobby

While walking my dog recently, I thought of a great old local commercial that aired in the Greenville, NC, area featuring a guy named Bobby in a wheelchair reducing prices in his furniture store while his wife tried to figure out where he was. "He's slashing prices," she said with a deep twang. "That's my Bobby." Seemed like a perfectly fine theme to begin the show. No You Tube footage of the commercial could be found, dang it. New music from Outrageous Cherry, the Candy Snatchers, Peter Case and assorted great locals. Tune in next week for the annual all cover songs edition of Zero Hour.

WMSE had a one-day pledge drive last Friday to make up for the remaining $5,000 needed for the spring. As of today, the station is still about $2,400 short, so support the station and freeform radio with a pledge right now! New music this week from Teenage Fanclub, King Louie's Missing Monuments, Davila 666 and a Psycho 50th anniversary theme to start.
